2018 FFMS Scholarship Recipient Testimonials

Carly Berkeland - Broadcast Journalism

University of South Carolina ‘22

I am paying for college mostly on my own, and thanks to the scholarships I received, I was able to pay my tuition with my scholarships, my paychecks, and a very small loan. My goal is to be debt-free less than 5 years after graduation.

Jason Westmoreland - Health Science: Pre-professional Health

Clemson University ‘22

I attend Clemson University in Clemson, SC. I am majoring in Health Science with a Pre-professional Studies Concentration in hopes of attending medical school after earning my undergraduate degree. The scholarship awarded to me from the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools helped offset the high cost of college tuition. This will be beneficial as I will be able to use the money I saved to help pay for graduate school.

Keri Nissen - Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education

Winthrop University ‘22

My name is Keri Nissen and I am a freshman at Winthrop University. I am currently majoring in Early Childhood Education while also taking classes in Elementary Education allowing me to be certified in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and I plan on using this to become a first grade teacher. With the help of the scholarship I received from the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools Scholarship Program I was able to attend Winthrop without taking out as many student loans. This scholarship provided me with funds that greatly helped pay for my education, and I don’t have to pay it back! I will forever be thankful to this foundation for assisting me in one of the most stressful aspects of going to college, the financial aspect.

Summer Sweeney - Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education

College of Charleston ‘22

I attend the College of Charleston as an Early Childhood Education major. I am a part of the Honors College, and I am a Teaching Fellow which are both amazing opportunities that will help prepare me for my future career. With the scholarship money, I was able to afford textbooks and required readings for my classes that I could not have bought without the award money. I am very grateful to be a recipient of the scholarships I applied for, and I continue to work hard every day to uphold my standing.

Kathleen Luu - Biology

Roanoke College ‘22

My name is Kathleen Luu and I attend Roanoke College. I hope to major in biology and maybe go into the medical field. The Fort Mill Scholarship Program has given me the opportunity to further my education without struggling with the finances of college, and for that I am truly thankful.
